From Europe, the best and most practical is with Qatar Airlines through Doha to Kathmndu round trip for 690 Euro. Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Turkish have sometimes interesting rates to New Delhi, worth checking.
Then take a second flight New Delhi to Katmandu. Many companies do this route several times a day: Indian Airlines, Royal Nepal Airline (often delayed), Air India, Kingfisher Airline, JetLite and Jet Airways. Booking is required in advance; lowest round trip price is about EUR 200.

From Asia: fly through Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok-Katmandu: Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines,Nepal Airlines and Thai Airways. Average Round Trip Price EURO 300-500. Nepal Airlines is the cheapest compnay with delayed flights.

From America: fly through Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific and get Dragon Air Hong Kong-Katmandu. You have to wait many hours in HK Airport to get the connection to Nepal. Or take Royal Nepal Airlines from Hong-Kong-Katmandu. Or fly from LA with Thai Airways through Bangkok.

Airport Pick Up
For those who want, we can organise an airport pick up with Namo Buddha Resort from the airport, also to and from Kathmandu. The price depends on the kind of car, it starts with 2.500 NRs (~23 Euro) per car. The travel time from Katmandu airport to the resort is about 2.5h with no traffic. Provide your flight details for Airport pick up.

Yogi-nomad recommends you take care of your Carbon offsetting with Sustainable Travel International: http://www.sustainabletravelinternational.org

How shall I prepare?
A Yoga Teacher Training is an intense experience, you need to do your best come prepared and rested to make the most of it. If possible, practice every day (not only asana), adopt a life style close to the training life style, a month in advance, to avoid difficulty to adapt: wake up around 05h AM and go to bed early, eat vegetarian and healthy, stop smoking, refrain from too many coffees, teas and alcohol, read lots of yoga books.

What to bring?
MANDATORY

  • Woolen shawl (useful for lectures, meditation and relaxation)
  • Yoga Mat
  • Water bottle
  • Flashlight/or small torch
  • Travel alarm (for early mornings wake up)
  • Comfortable Yoga clothes to change

RECOMMENDED BUT IT IS REALLY UP TO YOU..

  • Light jacket (see Climate Headline)
  • Light walking shoes
  • Hat (for cold mornings, evenings and sun)
  • Sun block
  • Earplugs
  • Padlock
  • Menstrual protection for women as you might not find what you like in Kathmandu and in village shops. It is ecological and excellent for Mother Earth. This makes it perfect for all activities. Read more…

Note that you can buy all the above (except shoes) at very competitive prices in Kathmandu.
Clothing: Comfortable and modest clothing suitable for movement is recommended. For your own comfort, be aware that tight fitting or revealing clothing, even shorts, mini-skirts and sleeveless tops are NOT recommended as they may draw unwanted attention. It is recommended to maintain a clean and simple appearance when we practice outside. When we practice indoors you can wear your normal yoga attire.

Shoes: Comfortable walking shoes or sandals are very important. You will have to take off your shoes to enter temples, regardless of the cleanliness of the temple floor. Bring shoes that are easy to wear and remove.

Camera: It is easier to carry a compact camera than an imposing reflex; in many places cameras are not allowed or attract touts. You can take picture during classes.

Jewelry and valuables: It is recommended you leave all valuables and jewels at home.

Electricity: 220 volts/50 Hz. Most plugs are European style double round pin but sizes vary. British and Australasian plugs need an adaptor; North American appliances need a transformer too, unless multi-voltage. Power cuts are regular in Katmandu. The resort has their own generator that it is used during power cuts.

Books: You do not have to bring all the books of the reading list; most of them are available in Katmandu at excellent prices and available in the Yogi-nomad library for reading during the 6 week training. Best is to read before the training commences, the training is intense and from experience you have little time to read during the course.

Laptops: Many students in recent years come to the training with laptops computers, apart from the inherent risk and precautions links to travel with a laptop, there are allowed in class and we provide many materials under soft format. If you chose that option, USB keys and external hard disk are useful to share materials. If you choose to carry your laptop during the theory courses, checking emails and/or Facebook (on laptop or phones) is not allowed during classes and may result in being suspended from class. Please note that you might find useful to have your laptop with you and only restrict it to your own yoga research to do your homework during study times in the TTC. And for those who don't have laptops, please write to Gaby so we can find you a suitable options for your research papers.
